Challenge Update
I'm sure the first thing you're wondering
is "How's the Challenge going"? The answer is "Great!"
Several subscribers jumped right in and accepted my challenge (Oct
2004) to
"use the
information we've been talking about to take on a health-promoting
project in your life."
We're about
halfway through now. Here are some of the breakthroughs and
insights our participants have shared. As you read them, see
which ideas speak to you.
-
One participant
thought she had her projects prioritized. She thought
she could get right down to work. Then she realized that a
different project needed to be fulfilled first. This is
great! How often do you beat yourself up for not doing
something when, really, you have a higher priority issue that needs
to be taken care of first?
-
SUCCESS TIP #1:
Create and maintain clear priorities.
-
Another
participant realized she'd been letting other people talk her out of
the life she really wanted. She'd been so busy deferring to
what they thought that she really hadn't taken the time to
focus on what she thought. She began to realize that
the only person she could change was herself.
-
SUCCESS TIP #2: Focus on factors you can influence.
-
One participant
realized she really did believe that everything she wanted was
easily obtainable --- by other people. But by her? Well,
now, that was an entirely different story. When she started to
really focus on the idea that she could have these things too,
her project really began to move forward.
-
SUCCESS TIP #3: Stay objective.
-
Another
participant was so excited about beginning her project that she
moved into action immediately! She was really pumped!
That is, until she began to notice that her actions weren't
producing the results she wanted. She'd been so excited about
her idea that she'd decided to short-cut (i.e. skip) the
planning/research stage. She realized that this was a common
thing in her life -- working really hard without actually
accomplishing what she wanted. Fortunately, this time she had
created some meaningful goals. Keeping those goals in mind
allowed her to notice her strategy needed adjustment before too much
time elapsed.
-
SUCCESS TIP #4: Learn everything you can about your challenges.
So what's your
sabotage style?
You may remember
that in our September issue, we talked about 4 basic sabotage styles.
Each of the examples you just read illustrates a real-life situation
for each type. There's a 5th factor as well -- a factor so
comprehensive that its success or failure can effectively obscure the
4 basic styles. I'll introduce it to you formally in a future
issue.
But for now...
What's holding you back?
Most people would
really like to answer (and get past) that question. To help you
out, I've posted a little quiz. Click the link below to test
your sabotage style. It's quick and informative. Share
this with your friends!
